And, once you’re down in the garbage dumpster of your mind, it’s kinda hard to pull yourself back out, which can lead you to a rinse and repeat cycle.

Why do I know this?


Because I have actually experienced first hand what it feels like to have a stressful day, spending hours munching between sweet & salty on the couch while literally not feeling physically hungry at all.

Then after a fleeting moment of escape from my worries, I felt a flood of guilt rush in from what I had just eaten and I crashed back into reality full speed ahead.

This was a repeated habit for decades and I’ve never been more confused in my life.

True story.

In addition, I was spending like $400 per month on supplements meant to curb my hunger & speed up my metabolism, & keep me on “track” with the latest diet trend.

Yes, there’s a lot of really fancy, (expensive) ways to lose weight.

And I don’t know about you, but I don’t have millions of dollars to waste, especially when I was also spending my hard earned dollars on junk food that I didn’t want to eat in the first place.

It was maddening and I don’t like spending money foolishly.

Here’s the deal.

Let me give you my quick back story.

It’s important.

I started as a personal fitness trainer and I had no idea why I was secretly eating.

I certainly knew what to do, heck, I was teaching nutrition to others.

But behind the scenes I was lying to myself, lying to others, sabotaging my efforts, and hating myself all at the same time.

Those silly little thoughts in the back of my mind were destroying my ability to look in the mirror and like what I was seeing.

You see, I'm also a former perfectionist and I spent decades making sure everyone thought I was perfect… Including me, but it was painfully exhausting.

Sometimes I’d get so caught up in my thoughts that I couldn’t sleep for days.

Sometimes longer.

But with my thoughts in hyperdrive & my stress level through the roof it makes a lot of sense why sugar was my secret best friend.


I remember the first time I really thought I was going bonkers.

It was a Thursday afternoon.


The kids were gonna be home from school any minute. I just needed something to “take the edge off.”

I tried to stick with my current diet plan, which was eating a mix of carbs & protein at the same time

Peanut butter & banana on a rice cake? Nah.

Cinnamon & honey oatmeal with a hard boiled egg? Nah.

Apples with Greek yogurt & granola? Nope, not this time.

I remember thinking, “I just need something now!!” Then I saw them….cookies in the back of the freezer where I hid them most of the time.

"Uh- Oh….Is this happening!? Like am I going to ingest 24 cookies right now?? This is insane.”

I felt like an out of control speeding freight train.

Which was horrifically terrifying.

I remember thinking...

"Don’t eat them all Lisa, run to the outside garbage where you can at least throw the last 2 away!!!”

I know it sounds simple to just throw the last 2 away, but it wasn’t for me. I just couldn’t do it. So, I shoved the last two cookies into my mouth and crumbled to the floor.

Tears, crumbs, and heavy sobs escaped my mouth and I repeated my mantra of shameful phrases that I was oh too familiar with.

So I picked myself up, brushed away the crumbs and tears and carried on with my day, defeated again for the millionth time.

And this next thing I'm going to share is a little mind-blowing to share because I always thought I knew myself so well.

Until I discovered this…

About a year before this incident occurred, I started to take some courses in self-discovery.

I was learning all sorts of new things about myself, but I had never related them to food.

So, after this crazy 24 cookie day happened, I decided to take some of the things that I had learned in my classes and apply it to my food “thing.”

So, I asked myself…”Lisa, why did you eat those cookies?” Answer, “ I wanted to feel calm.”

So, I asked myself another question: “Did you end up feeling calm like you had intended?”

That thought was all completely overwhelming because I felt anything BUT calm.

I felt sick, disgusted, angry, sad, ashamed, guilty, regretful, mistreated, disconnected, and painfully exposed.

And what happened next will blow your mind.

I realized that my subconscious intention of eating the cookies was to feel all of those things because I had past experiences that I had not learned how to heal yet.

The food was merely my perfect way of fueling the feeling that I already had about ME.

Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in my mind.

All I have to do is heal myself from the inside out and I will be free. BAM!!!

And that’s exactly what I did. I healed myself from the inside out so that I no longer needed food to fuel those bad feelings.

Once I recognized that food was NOT the problem and I started to look inward, I suddenly felt a release in my mindset and food did not have a grip on me anymore. I was free to be ME again and I ‘crushed’ my food thing for good!

When I said good-bye to blaming food for all my problems:

  • I had good thoughts in my head underneath the bad thoughts about my overeating habits.

  • I had a concise purpose for my life other than thinking about food?

  • I added some great ideas that were motivational and not attached to a weight goal.

  • I added value to my daily routine without judging if I had eaten “good or bad” that day.

  • I identified the thoughts in my head that were keeping me stuck

That’s it. And, guess what. I did it all with the help of some amazing coaches and mentors who gave me a safe place to explore my deeper self in a judgment free, safe space.

This took me 6 years.

As awesome as my coaches were, they did not know how to help me with my “food thing”. That I figured out on my own.
